• Quarter Horse Stakes schedule sets another record at Horseshoe Indianapolis

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025) — Fresh off a record setting season in 2024, Indiana Quarter Horse racing is on the move again. A total of 30 stakes races will be held with purses topping $2.381 million, a new record for stakes purses at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

Quarter Horse action offered the first two Restricted Grade 3 races for the sprinters in 2024 led by the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity and the Miss Roxie Little Futurity. Both races offered record purses in 2024 with the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity topping $200,000 for the first time in its 27-year history with a total of $212,170. The race is set for Saturday, Aug. 30 in 2025 during one of six days dedicated to all Quarter Horse racing. The Miss Roxie Little Futurity, set for Saturday, Oct. 25 this year, offered a purse of $235,600 in 2024. Both races are now represented by jockey statues outside the winner’s circle featuring the winning horse’s silks.

“Seeing our state Quarter Horse racing program grow and become very lucrative over the past few years has been amazing to watch,” said Eric Halstrom, Vice President and General Manager of Racing. “Also, being able to add two Graded Stakes to the schedule last year is a direct commitment by the leaders of the QHRAI (Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana) who continue to improve and promote our state’s racing program.”

A total of six all-Quarter Horse racing dates have been set for the 123-day meet. All dates will be held with a first post time of 10:45 a.m. on select Saturdays, including May 31, June 28, July 19, Aug. 9, Aug. 30 and Oct. 4. Each have trials and stakes finals attached to the day, creating strong competitive races on days showcasing Quarter Horse racing.

The season will conclude Saturday, Oct. 25 on the sixth annual Indiana Champions Day. A total of six stakes and consolations are set for the day and final purses will ultimately extend beyond $800,000 again in 2025. The largest purse in Indiana Quarter Horse history was recorded last year on Indiana Champions Day as the Governor’s Stakes, one of three races held during the inaugural season of pari-mutuel Quarter Horse racing in 1997, offered a final purse of $269,900, showing the growth of the Indiana program.

Another highlight during the season is Quarter Horse Stakes Day Saturday, July 19 with four stakes offered. The day is led by the $150,000 Gordon Mobley Futurity, which offered a purse of $193,700 in 2024. Other stakes on the day include the $100,000 Jaguar Rocket, the $100,000 Heartland Futurity, and the $100,000 Blue River Dery.
