SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (Wednesday, May 14, 2025) – Running Away lived up to her name Wednesday, May 14 as part of the Caesars Day racing program featuring more than $700,000 in purses at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Guided by Gerardo Corrales, the sophomore filly was a dominant winner as the favorite of the petite field in the Horseshoe Indianapolis that came off the turf for the one mile 70 yard race over the dirt due to earlier rain.
Running Away started from post three and established herself as the early leader over the sloppy racetrack. Zealous Moon and Jaime Torres held their ground inside with Mascara and Evin Roman also in the early mix of speed. Around the final turn, Corrales asked Running Away for a different gear, and she delivered, opening up by two lengths heading into the stretch.
Running Away was comfortable in the final stages of the race. Junta and Joseph Ramos were making a bid toward the leaders, first moving to the outside and then moving back to the inside for their best shot at taking the lead away from Running Away. But the filly was too strong. Running Away scored the win by four and one-half lengths as the favorite of the field. Junta and Joseph Ramos finished second over Reining Flowers and Axel Concepcion for third.
“She’s a good horse,” said Corrales about Running Away. “Last time, she had pressure, but today she was strong and when I asked her, she really responded. I was very confident in her ability. She has a big heart.”
Running Away is a home bred by Gun Runner. She was bred, raised, and owned by Stud TNT in Kentucky. The operation is owned by Carina Torrealba, the wife of Goncalo Torrealba, who is the Chairman of Three Chimneys where Gun Runner stands. Wesley Ward trains the chestnut filly, who earned her third win in six starts and boosted her career earnings to more than $260,000 in the $150,000 Horseshoe Indianapolis.
“She (Running Away) had good works coming into the race and she likes to be on the lead,” said Luis Etteggui, racing manager for Stud TNT. “She has run on the grass before but she’s really better on the dirt, so Wesley (Ward) wanted to take a shot that this race would be run over the dirt, and it worked out. If it had stayed on the turf, we probably would have scratched. This was a good spot for her and a good way to get back in the win column.”
Stud TNT is a growing breeding and racing operation. Based in Lexington, Ky., they currently have 85 brood mares and six stallions. Running Away is one of 50 horses currently in training for them. They currently have 64 foals on the ground in 2025 and 45 yearlings this year, showing the firepower they have coming up in the next few years for racing.
The 23rd season of live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing runs through Thursday, Nov. 13. For more information on racing at Horseshoe Indianapolis, visit www.caesars.com/horseshoe-indianapolis/racing or find details on social media @HSIndyRacing.
