Indiana’s richest Thoroughbred race, the Grade III $500,000 Indiana Derby, is set for Saturday, July 14 at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino. Coming off a record-breaking year in 2017, the Indiana Derby showcases some of the best three-year-olds in the country and carries the tradition as A Royal Derby.
In addition to the Indiana Derby on July 14, the day will be highlighted by six stakes races and purses in excess of $1.1 million including the 23rd running of the Grade III $200,000 Indiana Oaks.
“Indiana Derby is the highlight of our season each year,” said Kevin Greely, Indiana Grand’s director of racing. “Our race has found a competitive summer spot since we moved it to mid-July in 2015. Each year, the nomination list for all of our stakes on Indiana Derby night represents some of the top names in the business, which is a true testament to the quality of racing we offer that evening.”
Packages for the Indiana Derby Tent experience will be available starting May 14 by calling (317) 421-0000. The $75 package includes seating in a luxurious, climate-controlled tent on the racecourse apron, a gourmet Indiana Derby buffet, an open bar, a free program, and a complimentary Indiana Derby souvenir glass.
The post-position draw for the Indiana Derby will take place on Wednesday, July 11 at Indiana Grand’s race course clubhouse. On Friday, July 13, Indiana Grand will host the annual Knight in Arms celebration - a tribute to those who serve and protect.
