Author David Fierst of Ohio will speak tonight about his book, Hidden Disgrace: Revealing the Distress Signals Covered by North American Indian Myths. Books like Hidden Disgrace are often criticized as “revisionist history,” however, the author seeks to shed light on the true course of history. Fierst was moved to write after visiting the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota in April 2014, after which he grappled with understanding the reasons for the harsh living conditions there. He will speak in Room B of the Annex.
John Twyford of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska will speak in Room A of the Annex. Twyford has an agricultural economics, farm management, and beef feedlot management degree from University of Nebraska, spent more than 15 years in Sub-Saharan Africa Farm Technologies working with African smallholder producers, and operates his family’s homestead farm with his father on the Winnebago & Omaha Indian Reservation. He belongs to multiple intertribal councils and sits on multiple national and international boards while residing in Westfield and operating the US-Veteran and Native American-owned consulting firm. Twyford will speak to Kids Club members and other youth.
