The Shelby County Public Library’s Genealogy & History Department will host its Second Annual Family History Fair on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. In the afternoon, keynote speaker and lifelong genealogist, Jenny Warner, is slated to give a talk entitled “The Overland Trails: Westward Migration in the 19th Century.” Our ancestors went west seeking opportunity, land and the promise of a better life for their families. Many of them stopped in Indiana and decided to make their homes here in Shelby County. Learn about the trails they took, what they experienced along the way and how you can discover them in records they left behind. Other highlights of the event include a genealogy organization workshop, quilt show, and the following hands-on demonstrations: fiber arts, spinning, weaving, scrapbooking and quilting. Visitors can also peruse information booths, share “black sheep” stories and make guesses at “Who is it?” and “What is it?” tables. The Moon Cave Ramblers will perform on the plaza stage while visitors enjoy a lunch provided by the First Church of Pentecost. Lunch costs $8 and includes chili, sandwich, chips, cookie and a drink. Baked goods, snacks and drinks will be available for purchase all day. Join us in the Carnegie East Wing building for this fun, educational experience focused on genealogy and family history!
