Denim Day is an annual awareness campaign on April 24th to protest sexual violence and show support to survivors.
Denim Day originated in regards to a sexual assault case in Italy in the 90's. A driving instructor raped his 18 year old first-time driving student on a back road. The perpetrator was convicted, but then appealed the case and won. The judge stated that the jeans the girl was wearing were so tight that she would've "had" to help take them off, and therefore it was "consensual sex" rather than rape. The next day, women in the Italian Parliament protested by wearing jeans to work. Since then, it has been an annual campaign that people all over the world use protest sexual violence and show support to survivors.
If you would like to participate, please contact Amber Knopp with the number of buttons/stickers you'd like to have for yourself, your group, or your business. We also ask that you send a photo of you or your group's denim that we will share on our Facebook page to highlight your support for sexual assault survivors!
