    Position: Shelbyville High School Counselor                             EFFECTIVE DATE: August 1, 2022


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

    • Ensure that students within the counselor’s assigned caseload have met all graduation requirements necessary, and if not, an intervention plan is created
    • Schedule students’ course work appropriately so that all graduation requirements are met
    • Assist in the creation of the master schedule for the building
    • Counsel groups or individual students through the development of educational and career plans
    • Provide regularly updated scholarship information to students and parents
    • Counsel small groups and individual students with academic or socio-emotional issues; refer severe issues to appropriate community resources
    • Consult with teachers, staff and parents regarding meeting the developmental needs of students
    • Continually evaluate and revise the building counseling program
    • Conduct guidance activities in the classroom in conjunction with administration and teachers
    • Consult with teachers to facilitate the infusion of counseling/guidance activities into the regular education curricula
    • Provide orientation for students new to the school
    • Counsel students and parents in use of test results for education/career planning
    • Respond to crisis situations when appropriate
    • Organize and help administer standardized testing such as PLAN, ASVAB, PSAT, SAT, ACT, ISTEP, AP, Accuplacer and ECA exams
    • Organize 8th grade pre-enrollment at the middle school, Financial Aid Night, Senior Awards Program and other parent information meetings
    • Assist with the compilation and checking of the data submitted on IDOE reports
    • Adhere to ethical standards of the state and national school counselor associations
    • Demonstrate knowledge of local, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws pertaining to school counseling
    • Complies with Corporation Bylaws, Policies and Employee Handbook
    • Models Corporation Mission Statement and Fundamental Objectives
    • Maintains satisfactory attendance

    SUMMARY: To provide, as a member of the Counseling Department, a comprehensive guidance program for students in grades 9-12 and specifically provide activities to meet the needs of their assigned case-load; consult with teachers, staff and parents to enhance their effectiveness in helping students; and provide support to other high school educational and standardized testing programs.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Master of Arts or Science degree in counseling, counselor endorsement Valid School Services Personnel License
