    POSITION: School Nurse                                                           EFFECTIVE DATE: July 29, 2021
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned
    • Assists the Health Services Director with the health services program at their assigned building
    • Follows directives from Health Services Director
    • Assist with evaluating and maintaining school health policies.
    • Implements immunization requirements and all screening programs mandated by Indiana law
    • Implements mandated health programs approved by the School Board
    • Assesses, identifies, monitors, and refers health needs of students
    • Administers first aid and emergency procedures in accordance with established procedures
    • Implements and monitors procedures for safe storage of medications
    • In cases of crisis, provide necessary direction to counselor and administrator to ensure the situation is managed in a manner to optimize the health and safety of the individual while minimizing anxiety.
    • Dispenses prescription and OTC medications as ordered
    • Provide care/assistance to students outlined in their Individualized Health Care Plan with the proper training
    • Willing to do the following and assist if needed:
      • G-tube feedings
      • blood sugar monitoring
      • administer injections
      • oral suctioning
      • administer medications including emergency medication
      • diaper changing
      • assist with feeding
      • any other task delegated by the nurse/teacher
    • Creates and maintains current health records on all students
    • Attend RTI meetings/special education conferences and communicate conference information and health concerns with Health Services Director and appropriate staff
    • Maintain confidential employee health records
    • Implements policy on exclusion/readmission of students in conjunction with infectious and contagious diseases
    • Maintain first aid equipment to be used in clinic, office, classrooms as well as specialty first aid equipment (ie: Narcan, EpiPen, Stop the Bleed).
    • Serves as a liaison between school, home, and the community
    • Cooperates with community organizations in coordinating services with those provided in the school
    • Maintains a safe, pleasant, clean, and organized clinic environment
    • Maintains daily log of clinic activities
    • Maintains confidentiality
    • Conducts lice screenings as needed
    • Uses Snellen Wall Chart or Titmus screening machine to test vision of special education students for re-evaluation and general education students for Response to Intervention as well as required screenings and any student with vision concerns upon request from that student, parent, and/or teacher.
    • Assist with management of dental service program as needed
    • Assists with management of fluoride mouth rinse program as needed
    • Maintains a current first aid and CPR/AED provider card
    • Promotes and maintains positive working relationships with all school personnel
    • Attend required training sessions
    • Assist with training of school personnel in CPR, first aid, screening techniques, and clerical responsibilities
    • Serves as a resource person in matters pertaining to health curriculum planning
    • Participates in school committees (ie: wellness, crisis team)
    • Clerical functions related to job responsibilities and assists with other clerical duties as needed
    • Well organized and takes initiative

    • Good communication skills
    • Maintains satisfactory attendance
    • Enjoys working with children of all ages
    • Complies with Corporation Bylaws, Policies and Employee Handbook
    • Models Corporation Mission Statement and Fundamental Objectives
    • Maintain current CPR/AED provider card
    • Maintain current first aid certification
    • Willing to be trained in responsibilities listed
    • Current Indiana Nurse License
