  • Animal Shelter Pet of the Week: 3/8/19

Bear is a five-year-old medium-size mix that was dumped in Shelby County last summer.  We were able to track down the Rush County owner who admitted to his wrong-doing and stated he was now homeless in Shelby County.  Bear was relinquished and whisked off to Vet Tech Institute.  We "kid" that Bear is the $10,000 dog, because he is ... and then some.  Bear was sick with heartworm and spent nine months at Vet Tech undergoing treatment and eventually a cure.  Bear has been released back to his home-away-from home at the shelter and we are looking for a responsible owner who will take heartworm preventative seriously.  He weighs 35 pounds, is housebroken, neutered, current on all vaccinations, wormed, kid-friendly and good around other dogs (although we encourage meet and greets).  It has been a long road for Bear, as well as the shelter staff and Vet Tech faculty and students but Bear is finally available for adoption to a approved home.
