  • Animal Shelter Pet of the Week: 7-26-19

Eighteen pounds of pure love, Buddy is looking for a forever home.  He was surrendered to our animal shelter on July 15th because the dog was too protective around the children.  The little dog definitely has an attitude and was originally found running around a park in Indianapolis.  The Shelby County resident decided he wanted the stray, but then found his owner nearby.  Well, the story goes that they didn't want the dog any longer so they let the Shelby County family keep him.  They got him neutered through the Brownsburg Spay/Neuter Clinic and thought all would go well.  The Chihuahua/Terrier mix bonds quickly with his humans and has a protective quality about him.  If adults come into the home, he is protective of his people.  But when the two daughters were on the floor wrestling, he was trying to protect the smaller child.  They decided that their home wasn't the home for this sweet dog.  Now don't get me wrong, when the owner carried him in, he was a different dog.  He was not fond of me trying to scan him for a microchip as he was trying to protect his dad.  Fast forward a day later and he is a wiggle butt that loves all of us, and when he sees someone he loves he jumps up and down on his back feet!  Buddy is housebroken and was the only pet in his home.  If you were to add him to your pack, a meet and greet would be necessary.   Buddy would also do well in a home that can keep the little dog with a "tude" in line.  I think in his previous home, he was the boss!  He is done growing so if you are looking for a small lap dog, he would be a great choice.  His adoption fee of $30 covers the cost of his Home Again Microchip and registration.  Questions?  Email me at cbrowder@cityofshelbyvillein.com or call your compassionate shelter team at 317-392-5127.
