Blue River Community Foundation: BRCF January 2021 Newsletter
January 2021 THANKS TO OUR OUTGOING BOARD MEMBERSBRCF would like to thank Brent Sandman and Terry Smith for their tenure as board directors; both completed 9 year terms in December. During their time on the board, they have been instrumental volunteers always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. We commend Brent and Terry not only for their service to the Foundation, but for envisioning a better future for the residents of Shelby County.
7 UNRESTRICTED, COMMUNITY FUNDS
Granting For The First Time In 2021Thanks to our donors, BRCF’s number of unrestricted, community funds has grown to 60; four new funds established in December 2020 alone. Based on our spending policy, a waiting period of two years is observed before grants are made from a percentage of the earnings of the endowed portion of funds. In 2021, seven unrestricted, community funds will grant for the first time increasing BRCF’s ability to address current needs in our community. One of those funds is the Brent & Jan Sandman Fund which was established in 2019. Having served on BRCF’s Board of Directors and Grants Committee, Brent saw first-hand the positive impact this type of fund provides. Other unrestricted, community funds granting for the first time include:
- Bice & Alice Williams and Rob & Rita Gearhart Family Fund
- James & Marjorie Sly Fund
- Jeff & Donna Beaty Fund
- Julia C. Runnebohm Memorial Fund
- Justin Robert Barrick Fund
- Wayne & Sue Coil Family Fund
SNIP SIX: CARNEGIE EAST MURAL Last year, a community grant was awarded to the Shelby County Public Library to complete a mural on the steps and ramp of Carnegie East. Thanks to one of BRCF's many unrestricted funds, the DePrez Family Community Fund, this project was possible. Please check out the fantastic Snip Six Grant Report the library provided as part of their grant reporting requirement.
