  • FUSE, Inc.: Join the Impact and Legacy of BOSS

“For my daughter, BOSS gave her the tools to verbalize all the emotions she felt when she became most anxious, and because of that she’s been able to use strategies to calm herself down whereas before her anxiety would take over. I’ve noticed she’s become much less worried in social situations as a result.” said parent, Candace Hudziak.

Monica Kucan had a dream to make an impact and bring social skills training to the community. Her vision was big and full of energy, just like Monica! When FUSE had the opportunity to apply for the Hancock County Community Foundation Big Impact Grant, Monica set her plan in motion. Her vision became a shared one with the FUSE staff and Board of Directors. After months of hard work on the grant, FUSE was awarded $25,000 on December 3, 2017 and the dream became a reality.

After Monica’s passing on April 20, 2018, we felt inspired to honor her memory while fulfilling her dream. Monica’s legacy lives in the children she touched in life and through this amazing program. Before Monica passed, she had made it known that she intended to fund a student scholarship for the program. This desire led to the creation of the Monica Kucan Memorial Scholarship Fund. Every dollar that is donated in memory of Monica will be granted to students who would not be able to participate due to financial restraint.

BOSS (Building Our Social Skills) afterschool program became a reality at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year. To date we have impacted 45 students and 19 instructors and co-instructorsin four school systems.

“As an instructor, I have appreciated having the dedicated time to work on and develop the social skills that my students are deficient in. Based upon our time together, I have witnessed growth and development in my students. Each has shown greater patience and understanding of others and a willingness to extend kindness to others. I am thankful for the opportunity to teach the BOSS program!” said instructor, Tammy Boser.

We invite you to consider a gift to the Monica Kucan Memorial Scholarship Fund. The impact of your gift will be felt for many years to come, in the priceless opportunities, relationships and knowledge it creates for children.
