    Behavior Supports for Virtual Learning

    Monday, November 9
    6:30 - 8:30 pm

What's your biggest e-learning struggle? Share and find solutions with us on November 9.
E-learning challenged parents and students alike last school year and threatens to frustrate again this year. Betsy will explore why e-learning is so difficult for many of us and, more importantly, what you can do to make it more bearable for your student through positive behavior supports.
Betsy York, MSW is a behavior consultant with CRF First Choice and works with kids and adults with an intellectual disability through the BDDS Medicaid Waiver. She graduated from Indiana University Indianapolis in 2009 with her Masters of Social Work. Her social work career started in community development but quickly fizzled when she realized writing grants for housing projects was far too impersonal for her taste. Thanks to a bit of serendipity, Betsy found her way to her current role-better known as the job she never knew she always wanted. Now, she spends her days teaching folks abut emotions and boundaries, helping them explore better ways to handle sticky situations, and encouraging them to bloom into their beautiful, best self.

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town!

Are your children making their list and checking it twice? If so, maybe they are gearing up for our visit with Santa.

Santa is going to visit FUSE families on Friday evening, December 11, from 6 to 8 pm at the Greenfield Area Chamber Conference Room. The Greenfield Area Chamber is located at 1 Courthouse Plaza, Greenfield.

Registration for this event is required and will be limited to the first 30 children, so click here to register now!  This event will reach maximum capacity and a wait list will be maintained, so register ASAP. Siblings welcome!

Registration will close by December 4 or when 30 children are registered, whichever comes first.

When you register you will be asked to select an arrival time to help us make sure the kids don't all arrive at once or get there too late to spend quality time with Santa. Santa also likes to have a few things to discuss with your child, so make sure you provide the requested info for Santa's notebook to help save the elves some time for toy making!

To keep everyone, including Santa, healthy and safe we ask that all families follow a few simple rules. When you arrive please remain in your vehicle and wait for a text to let you know that Santa and his elves are ready for your child(ren).  We also ask that all adults wear a mask, if possible. We will be limiting each family to their reserved time slot this year, to ensure that there are no crowds and we can easily maintain social distance. As usual we will still be providing holiday treats for all of the boys and girls, but this year they will be able to take it home with them.  We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

We look forward to seeing our FUSE families and can't wait to hear about all those Christmas wish lists!

Reserve Your Family's Time With Santa
During this difficult time, it is more important than ever for FUSE to be available to provide the information and supports that families and individuals with disabilities need to understand and navigate all of the changes in services and resources.  If you agree our work is essential or have benefited from our services in the past, we invite you to invest in our future by making a donation today. We appreciate your support in this trying time!

Now that the Council's 5-year State Plan Survey has come to an end, it's time for the next step: virtual town halls to get more information about individual and community concerns that may not fit easily into a survey format. We especially want to hear from people with developmental disabilities, people with nondevelopmental disabilities, and family members of people with disabilities, developmental or non.
We'll be hosting these Town Halls with the partnership of Health by Design; Causes for Change and VOCARTNWI; INSILC; accessABILITY Center for Independent Living; ADA Indiana and the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community; Back Home in Indiana Community Alliance; and Family Voices Indiana.
If you have any questions or need assistance in registering for one of the sessions, please email council@gcpd.in.gov.
There will be 8 meetings total; if one is full or if it doesn't work with your schedule, there are others!
Meetings will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays on Zoom:
    • November 17; Central Indiana 10-11:30 am EST
    • November 17; Central Indiana 5-6:30pm EST

    Zoom Meetings: A Quick Tutorial

It's a reasonable bet that most of us have done at least one Zoom (or similar) meeting during this pandemic, but maybe you haven't and it seems intimidating! Never fear. It's easy once you get the hang of it. Here's a quick tutorial just in case.

First set up a free account on Zoom prior to the call at https://zoom.us/You can do that via a computer or your phone.  If you prefer to use your phone or iPad for the meeting, you will need to download the app to your device.
A few minutes before the call, just click the link provided for your meeting.  If you do not get directly to the meeting room, you may need to enter the meeting ID. You will also be asked for the password to enter.

Once you are in the meeting, at the bottom of your screen you should see a place to turn on your microphone and your video. If things get too loud at your house, you can mute your mic as needed, but you can still hear the call. If your computer does not have a web cam, you can still hear, you just won't be able to appear live on screen.

On a computer the participants are displayed on the screen "Brady Bunch" style, called a gallery. On an iPad, you can select gallery view in the upper left corner of the screen. Phone screens start in "active speaker" view with additional participants in thumbnails at the bottom. You can swipe to scroll through participants. You can also swipe left on the active speaker to show more participants ( a smaller gallery due to screen size). If you keep swiping left you can add up to four participants in your view. Continue swiping left to view additional participants.

If you want to practice accessing zoom ahead of time just give one of our links a try. You will know you have been successful if you get a message letting you know the meeting hasn't started yet with the date and time. We can help talk you through if you contact us before the call has started (the earlier the better of course!).
