A Message from the Foundation President
    The Excitement of New Beginnings

I’ve always loved the first day of school! It’s tough to beat the feeling of starting fresh, learning more about yourself, and taking a step closer to a meaningful career. And Ivy Tech students seem to agree with me, because our 19 Indiana campuses are buzzing with activity this week.

Classes are starting again, and the energy level is high. And why not?
We have nearly 200,000 students working to become nurses, entrepreneurs, cyber security experts, pharmaceutical manufacturing leaders, and other disciplines that make the Hoosier State tick.

Having students on campus makes us all better. They are a positive, constant reminder of why we do what we do. They rely on us – and so do our communities across Indiana.

Most of our graduates – 93 percent – make Indiana their home while building up their careers. Nick Givens is one of the countless examples. Nick graduated from Ivy Tech Terre Haute in 2006 with an associate's degree in computer information systems before earning his bachelor's degree from Indiana State. Today, Nick is vice president and chief information officer at Riddle National Bank in West Central Indiana. He has used his academic achievements to launch a successful career while remaining deeply committed to Ivy Tech, where he's on the alumni council. Nick is leaving a lasting impression on his community and makes everyone at Ivy Tech proud.

Ivy Tech is different, and it’s why many of us are here.

At Ivy Tech, the goal isn't graduation day, it's a better every day after. And we can't wait to see the semester unfold.
    President Ellspermann Announces Retirement
Sue Ellspermann became Ivy Tech’s ninth president in 2016. When she retires in June of 2025, she’ll leave a legacy of accomplishments that has made Ivy Tech stronger.

Under Sue’s leadership, Ivy Tech aligned more than 70 degrees and credentials to the workforce needs of Indiana employers while launching dozens of innovative new programs, including the nation’s first smart manufacturing and digital integration pathway. Her administration also led an enrollment resurgence at our 19 Indiana campuses: more than 195,000 students enrolled in academic year 2023-2024 – the College’s highest number since 2014. And more than 90,000 of these students were still in high school, making Ivy Tech the leading awarder of early college credits in the country.

“I am forever grateful to the students, faculty, staff, trustees and community partners who trusted me to help Ivy Tech reach new heights in service of our students, employers and the state,” Sue said in announcing her retirement. “I am deeply proud of what we have achieved together and have full confidence that Ivy Tech will continue to deliver on its mission as Indiana’s workforce engine and springboard for social and economic mobility.”

The State Board of Trustees begins a nationwide search for Ivy Tech’s 10th president this fall. The Board anticipates the new president will assume leadership of the College on or before July 1, 2025.

U.S. Education Secretary Dr. Miguel Cardona: Ivy Tech is a “National Model” for Higher Education

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona visited Ivy Tech Valparaiso Wednesday as part of a back-to-school bus tour. Cardona toured the campus and spoke to manufacturing and nursing students to learn more about the programs.

Ivy Tech student Ryan Raleigh demonstrated how he operates robots in the college’s manufacturing training lab. He told Cardona he wants to own his own robotics business after finishing school.

In the nursing simulation lab, Cardona donned a virtual reality headset and watched as students delivered a virtual baby from a realistic, breathing mannequin.

He said Ivy Tech is an example for the rest of the country.

“We need schools like this,” he said. “This has to be the norm, not the exception. Yet, the reality is, not only are you the exception; in many cases you’re the exemplar.”

Graduating in 11 Months: Check out What’s Happening in Greencastle!
Squeezing a lot of hard work and commitment into a condensed period can pay off. Just ask six students at Ivy Tech Greencastle who finished up their course work in 11 months by using ASAP (Associate Accelerated Program). They’re now ready to transfer to a four-year college or begin their careers.

ASAP classes are spread over five 8-week terms and held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The program is akin to being a student’s full-time occupation. The limited enrollment program allows students to be part of small, closely-knit cohorts. A dedicated coordinator helps students to navigate the program while identifying academic and career goals.

“Their determination and perseverance were a highlight of the year,” said Jennifer Rumple, Ivy Tech’s ASAP coordinator.

ASAP also provides opportunities for the cohort to participate in local volunteer activities. Check out more about this program.

19 Reasons to be Proud of Ivy Tech
If you follow us on social media, you’ve seen our series of posts called 19 Reasons. The series calls out the reasons – our 19 campuses – that make us proud of Ivy Tech and the people in our communities.

Our students, faculty, alumni, donors, and programs continue making a real difference across Indiana and we want you to know about them. Keep an eye out for more posts that will demonstrate why Ivy Tech is integral to Indiana. Below is one example from this summer. Ygnacio Munoz – known as Junior – has a jumpstart on big career plans thanks to his hard work and success at our Lafayette Campus.
    • Junior just finished his senior year at McCutcheon High School. Thanks to Ivy’s Tech’s dual credit and dual enrollment programs, he already has associate degrees in business administration and accounting.
    • He was inspired by his older sister who took advantage of our dual programs. Junior’s journey began at the end of his sophomore year in high school: he used his planning and prioritization skills to manage his workload, preparing him for opportunities ahead.
    • Junior plans to enter Indiana Wesleyan University as a junior, where he will pursue an MBA, followed by a Ph.D., at Purdue. He hopes to return to Ivy Tech one day as a professor

Junior inspires all of us. And he’s why our Lafayette Campus is one of 19 Reasons to be proud of Ivy Tech.
