  • Major Health Partners: MHP COVID-19 update 10/30

    • UPDATES FROM MHP INCIDENT COMMAND:
      • Should a patient be retested after testing positive?  Once a patient tests positive for COVID, the CDC does not recommend retesting that patient. Some people do not clear the virus particles and will continue to test positive even though they are not infectious. The CDC further states immunocompetent people are no longer contagious 10 days after the onset of symptoms.  Also, if a person has symptoms of Covid who earlier in the year had confirmed Covid, the recommendation to test would be only if the original infection was more than 90 days ago. If less than 90 days, a positive could be from the old infection and not contributing to the current symptoms.
      • Cyberthreat/ransomware:  The FBI has notified us of a very serious cyber threat to hospitals across the country.  Several hospitals have been impacted with ransomware and patient care has been compromised in at least one instance.  Major Hospital has not been targeted or impacted to date.
      • Valet parking:  We are considering resuming valet parking at the Main Entrance/Door#2 at the medical center.  We are working on safety measures and protocols to make sure staff and patients are protected.  With the inclement weather season upon us, we are working to safely resume this service for our sick, elderly and fragile patient population. More information to come.

    • MHP TESTING STATUS:
      • Number of NEW positive results: 17 new positive cases since 10/28/2020
        • Out of the 17 new positive cases, 7 patients required inpatient care and 10 remained outpatient.

    • MHP INPATIENT STATUS:
      • Current number of 3rd floor inpatients:  33 and 7 of those patients are in the Critical Care Unit (CCU)
        • Number of available 3rd floor beds: 7
      • Currently, we have 11 inpatients that tested positive
      • Number of inpatients in the 1st floor ACC unit: 3 with 19 beds available and none of these are patients that have positive or suspected COVID.

    • MHP EMERGENCY DEPT STATUS:
      • Number of total ER patients in last 24 hours: 60 (We have averaged approximately 58 ER patients per day in October).

    • VENT STATUS:
      • Number of vents currently in use and number of vents available:
        • We have 1 ventilator in use and 4 BiPAP in use, plus 2 trilogy units are in use.  This leaves us with 15 ventilation units available.  The number of available vents is more than sufficient at this time based on the acuity of our patients and the number of inpatients.  We still have 10 disaster vents available and 6 home Cpap units (not included in the above totals).  Additionally, we have the ability to rent ventilators if the need arises, and we did that early on during the pandemic when we felt we needed more units on hand.  Our availability of ventilation units not a concern at this time.
