  • Shelby County Public Library: Library Packs Punch for Thanksgiving, November's End

    Holiday season begins this week with Thanksgiving on Thursday, and the Shelby County Public Library offers activities for the entire family, plus some that will help parents Christmas shop while their children are entertained. Although the library is closed Thursday, all branches are open Friday and Saturday.

     

    Storytime with Brandy features Thanksgiving this week on Tuesday and Wednesday. Youth Services Department Head Brandy Graves entertains the pre-K crowd, including babies, with stories and activities centered on Thanksgiving. Everyone can sing songs and enjoy the fan-favorite – bubbles! After Thanksgiving, Brandy will celebrate reindeer. 

     

    National Novel Writing Month ends on Nov. 30, but two more events can help aspiring authors to wrap up. NaNoWriMo Writers Group meets at 4 pm, Friday, Nov. 25 in Morristown while the Writers Group meets at 7 pm, Monday, Nov. 28, at the library’s Annex, 33 W. Broadway St.

     

    Euchre fun provides a relaxing evening on Wed., Nov. 30, at 6 in the library’s meeting room. Running until 8:30 pm, partners participate and enjoy snacks. If you don’t have a partner, don’t worry. Pam Weakley, Outreach Services coordinator, will help. 

     

    Relax after Black Friday shopping with some family time. All ages can enjoy a Family Game Day at Morristown on Saturday, Nov. 26, from noon to 5pm at the Velma Wortman Morristown Branch, 127 E. Main St. Morristown. Games for families, preschoolers, to advanced strategy gamers are available. 

     

    Nov. 30 is a special day for patrons. Patrons may use a special coupon to visit The Holiday Book Pre-Sale a day early for 10% off their entire purchase. More than 1,500 books are in the sale, and 95% have never been in library book sale before. Click here for your special coupon.

     

    Pricing is a sweet treat. Hard covers are $1 each; soft covers are 2 for $1; children’s book, CDs, DVDs, and books on tape are 4 for $1. Book Store Coupons are $1. These are valid any day of the year. Coupons don’t expire and make great stocking stuffers.
