• Shelby County Public Library: Mini-Horses Grace Library as Art & Games Fill out the Library’s Week

    Dutton the Physical Therapy Dog brings his love of reading and playing to the Shelby County Public Library on Monday, July 8 while mini-horses from the Jeavons’ farm visit Morristown Community Park to kick off a week crammed with programs for everyone. Art and games fill the rest of the week at Shelbyville and Morristown Branches.
    Dutton the Physical Therapy Dog will visit the Shelbyville Branch Youth Department on Monday, July 8 at 6 pm. However, now is the time to register for a time with Dutton. Dutton specializes in listening to children who may struggle with reading aloud. Research shows that therapy dogs can help reduce anxiety as well as improve focus and attention span.
    Mini-horses from the Jeavons’ farm will visit the Morristown Community Park after Storytime. Storytime begins at 1 pm while the Jeavons mini-horses visit at 1:30 at the park, located at 381 N. Morriston St. Learn about horse care and working horse with Jen Wright of Agape Therapeutic Riding, and find out how mini-horses are different from regular-sized horses.
    Art programs at the Shelbyville Branch are divided between adults and teens. Paint a beach scene while sipping mocktails on Tuesday, July 9 at 6 pm. Teens ages 11 and up can enjoy an OC Creation night on Tuesday, July 9 at 4:45 pm, and then paint ceiling tiles for the teen area on Wednesday, July 10 at 5 pm. Ages 6 to 11 can create Pokémon terrariums at 11 am on Friday, July 12. All supplies are provided for these free art events.
    Games this week include the adult-age Name That Tune and Board Game Club, which will play Balderdash at 6 pm on Thursday, July 11. Name That Tune will meet at 2 pm on Wednesday, July 10, when Stephanie plays songs with “summer” in their title.
    A llama pajama party, a survival tricks & tips campout, and everyone’s ark-hunting archeology professor’s movie are on the Morristown Branch’s schedule this week. PJs are welcome for the party time on Thursday, July 11 at 6 pm. Then, have fun at a library-friendly campsite between the bookshelves on Friday, July 12 at 6 pm. Learn camping and survival tips, craft a DIY bug spray, and enjoy tasty campout treats. All ages can enjoy the movie on Saturday, July 13 at 2 pm. Dress in your best adventuring outfits!
