We are thrilled to have a few things in yet this year.   While it will be an unusual holiday season without predominantly live entertainment, at least we will have some events for our community.

Since we started in 2008 Mickey’s T-Mart has been our local ticket outlet.  Many of you have made the trip to Mickey’s to purchase your Strand tickets.    Sadly the Meeke family announced they are closing the store at the end of November.    The Strand thanks the Meeke family and everyone at Mickey’s T-Mart for their constant support.    They have sold tens of thousands of tickets for the Strand.    Thank you Harry, Brenda, Brian, and Pam!

As one door closes, another opens.   The Strand will now have our tickets sold at Shelbyville Paint, Flooring & More at 235 E. Broadway Street.   The Wetnight family and the entire crew of Shelbyville Paint has stepped up to fill the void of a ticket outlet.    You may purchase Hocus Pocus tickets there.   Thank you Ray and the entire staff!

Our roof replacement was awarded a grant by the Blue River Community Foundation and funded by the City of Shelbyville racino fund.   This problem was made worse since we are mostly closed for Covid and have very little revenue.   The grant will cover the entire cost of the roof!    L&M Roofing, a local company, has already started getting everything needed for the project.    All the materials are in their shop with the exception of the insulation panels.   Who knows, maybe they are stuck in a boat in the Pacific, either way there are none available.   As soon as Mark and his crew get those panels work will begin.    This is a complete replacement tearing off all the layers of old roof and replacing with new.    The damage inside from the leaks is extensive.  We hope to tackle that problem in January.   Thank you to the City Council and BRCF!

Have you noticed it is getting a little chillier?   We came into the Strand and decided to check out our furnaces.   Nothing worked..oh no.   We then discovered one of our volunteers put a notice on the ticket counter from CenterPoint Energy that said our gas was turned off due to “maintenance.”  That was on August 11.   That is the same day a contractor ruptured a gas line on Broadway Street.   They must have turned off the gas at that time, and since we don’t have any gas appliances or pilot lights we didn’t notice until now.   A quick call to CenterPoint and one of our volunteers gets to spend the entire day at the Strand waiting on their crew.  Sadly it got worse.   Because the gas was off, they had to verify everything was fine in the theater before restoring service.   We know we leak about $1 per month of gas.   Well guess what...they won’t turn the gas back on until that is fixed.  We have the plumber scheduled for Tuesday.   It is an expense we really can’t afford, but have no choice.   Their technician found the leaks, and fortunately we can get to them easily.   They are very minute, but still need fixed.

Strand board members David F. and Joey G. made a trip to the Paramount Theatre in Anderson, Indiana.   They reached out to the Strand to get advice on their projection project.  The Anderson Paramount is a must see venue.  The John Eberson designed “atmospheric” theater is stunning.    The Strand was able to help, and they in turn are helping us with a few projects.   It is always nice to

We are working diligently on our 2022 season.  We hope to be back to normal by then.   Until then we hope you can come to one of our upcoming events.

Thank you for all the support and good wishes.   Covid isn’t over yet, and the pressure are tremendous, but we can’t wait to see you back at the Strand!
