Our 11th Season
Dear Strand Fan,
Tonight the Directors’ Jazz Orchestra performers A SWINGIN’ CHRISTMAS at the Strand. The theater will be filled with wonderful big band holiday music. There are plenty of tickets available. You can purchase them at the door. The concert starts at 7:30pm.
Saturday night DONNIE BAKER returns! We have two shows 7:00 and 9:30. The 7pm show is SOLD OUT. There are tickets available for the 9:30 show. It will be a fun time. The Strand Volunteers are ready. This year we will have our balcony lobby bar open for the performances too. Thank you to Pasghetti’s for providing the bar for these events. The downtown restaurants would love to have you dine with them before or after the show.
Sunday the SHELBY COMMUNITY BAND takes the stage for their Holiday Concert. This free concert starts at 2pm and will be performed without intermission. This is the final public event of the 2018 Season. We hope you can join us for a wonderful afternoon of holiday music.

Saturday is always fun, as we will have 350 patrons in the theater, with another 300 waiting for the second show. To make it more interesting, our neighbor First Baptist Church performs at 7pm their Christmas Cantata “GOOD NEWS FROM HOME.” Each year the Strand helps them prepare, and we encourage you to go either Friday or Saturday night. The Church is a wonderful neighbor and their music brightens our community as much as the Strand’s.
We are hard at work finishing our 2019 Season. We are almost done! We have flurry of final bookings. While we will continue to book throughout the year, we have very few open dates left. This is more due to volunteer capacity rather than theater usage. With being an all volunteer organization, we can do between 120 & 130 events per year. This allows us to meet our financial goals and fulfills our core mission. Many theaters do not keep the pace with number or variety as the Strand. We are fortunate and thankful to be successful. It is a group effort: Our vision, our volunteers, our patrons, and our community.
Changes are coming to the Strand. We want YOU to part of those changes. Our work sessions will be Saturday mornings in January. They last from 9am - 1pm. The more the merrier. As always we have something for all ages and skills. Also as our offices are finished, we will need help with office and accounting. We have lived out of bankers boxes since 2006. It is time for our permanent filling system!
Thank you for the support. Our Weekly Newsletter will take a break until the new year. On behalf of the Strand Volunteers (and those who write this newsletter) we wish you a very happy Holiday, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year! See you at the Strand.
