Dear Strand Fan,
Tonight we are showing the 1932 Universal Pictures classic THE MUMMY. This stars Boris Karloff (editor’s note: we goofed on that last week). This movie was made at a time when the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb was fresh. That 1922 discovery, and the subsequent 1925 entrance into the burial vault brought great interest in the subject of mummies and ancient Egypt. This movie is made for a theater, and tonight you have your chance to see it in a theater once again. At the Strand you can sit in the balcony and experience the movie just as you would have at our theater in 1932 when it premiered! The movie starts at 7:30pm and tickets are available at the door.
The next few weeks we are dark to allow our volunteers and audience to attend the plethora of graduation and end of school events. Congratulations to all the 2023 graduates.
We start back on June 2 with SWEET BABY JAMES: A JAMES TAYLOR TRIBUTE. This is a Friday night concert starts at 8pm and is sure to be a hit. America’s #1 James Taylor tribute artist Bill Griese visits from Nashville with his acclaimed Sweet Baby James show. Join us for the timeless music of the 6-time Grammy winner, with a performance you have to hear to believe! Not your typical tribute band fare, Griese brings you the songs & stories of Taylor in a refreshingly authentic way, using only his spot-on vocals and skillful guitar playing. It’s a natural & respectful homage to an American original. Whether you’re a lifelong or casual JT fan, this is a fantastic concert.
Audiences rave: “close my eyes and it’s JT,” “the next best thing to James himself,” and “like having James Taylor in your living room!” The Strand has partnered with Walking Man Productions to present the ultimate James Taylor experience, with favorites like “Fire & Rain,” “You’ve Got a Friend,” “Shower the People,” “How Sweet It Is,” “Steamroller,” and more; plus hidden gems for a truly Taylor made show honoring one of our greatest troubadours. Tickets are available online, locally at Shelbyville Paint, and at the door.

The difficult task of saving our web site from the servers of our late technical director Cody Veerkamp has been daunting. We are one password away from success, but sadly that password continues to elude us. This week David Finkel and Steve Frazee retrieved all the servers and are preparing to turn them over to a local company Tubesock, so see if they can access the backups to restore the site. In the meantime our URL (web address) points directly to our ticketing portal. Online tickets remain unaffected. It is a difficult, and for Steve and David, and heart wrenching task. We will get it done. Until then all our automatic whiz bang gizmos that run through the site are offline.
Our schedule is full of fun and interesting events. We hope you can attend. Thank you for the support! See you at the Strand.
