Our 17th Season
...Building an Audience, One Seat at a Time.
Dear Strand Fan,
TONIGHT, WHO YOU GONNA CALL? GHOSTBUSTERS (1984) takes the screen at 7:30pm September 13, 2024. We have the ECTO-1 crews standing by. You will see them in front of the theater! We hope you can join us for this month's Friday Night Frights: Forty Years Later.
***TOMORROW live music returns to the Strand's stage. MIKE MILLIGAN and STEAM SHOVEL will bring their brand of music to our audience. “We keep it simple, play from the heart, and reach out to those suffering and celebrating,” says Mike Milligan of him and his band’s music. It will be a great evening of music. We hope you can join us. Saturday September 14, 2024 at 7:30pm. Tickets are available online, at the door, and locally at Shelbyville Paint.
***
***The Strand will be home to a theatre pipe organ. Our organ, a "Uniphone" built by the Louisville Pipe Organ Company in 1928 for the Uptown Theatre in Louisville Kentucky, If you want to experience the joy of the theatre pipe organ, join our Strand volunteers on Sunday October 20, 2024. The Hilbert Circle Theatre is presenting "Remember the Paramount.". It will be presented by Strand performer Justin Stahl. Justin has played our theatre several times with the 38th Army Battalion Band. You might remember the Paramount Music Palace on East Washington Street in Indianapolis. You will hear a wonderfully restored Wurlitzer pipe organ that is installed in the Hilbert Circle Theatre. We hope to see you there!+
***Our marquee was vandalized. Someone very tall decided to unscrew light bulbs and smash them on the sidewalk. The Shelbyville Police were notified and took the report. Fortunately the camera on CVS sees our marquee, unfortunately it is not clear enough to make a positive identification. We have a suspicion who did it, and the police know about that. We are beyond disappointed.
***On Thursday night we had a movie premiere. This was a new film by Samuel Schmuker. Jason in Indianapolis: A Friday the 13th Tribute was shown on our screen. This was a "fan film." A fan film is a movie created about an existing film franchise, utilizing the likeness of characters and story lines. They are created solely for the love of the franchise and not for monetary gain. The film was shown without admission. We rolled the red carpet out, and it was a wonderful event. Congratulations to the cast and crew!
***We have been fighting a problem with our stage monitors. When a performer is onstage, they often cannot hear what the audience hears. To fix this they have an individual speaker on the floor that gives them a mix of sound. This includes the other instruments and singers. After finding a few small issues, Ron Bush, our guru of sound, discovered that two of our monitor speakers were shot. He ordered the replacement parts and viola! We're back in business.
(Warning, tech talk ahead) Stage monitors are quickly becoming a thing of the past. Most modern performers use "in ear" monitors. They are hearing aid type devices that do the same function. From a sound standpoint, it is like wearing earbuds. Cleaner and not nearly as harmful for their hearing. Until the transition is complete, which we predict in many decades, we have to be prepared with operational stage monitors.
***The Strand keeps track of all our interactions. This is part of running a professional organization. While we play the social media algorithms, we also push our organic listing metrics. This past month we fielded 60 phone calls and 14 text messages. We had 382 website visits, 4000 ticket link visits, 2035 profile views, and 94 searches with "strand" or "strand theater." We had 62 patrons use maps for directions to our theater. Now you know too!
***Thank you for the support. See you at the Strand!
