• The Kid Pataky graduates in Piedi Bianchi Overnight Handicap at Horseshoe Indianapolis

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024) — The Kid Pataky was the youngest female in the $55,000 Piedi Bianchi Overnight Handicap Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Horseshoe Indianapolis. However, she didn’t let her age hold her back, rallying home for the win in the race named in honor of Indiana’s all-time leading female racehorse with more than $800,000 in career earnings.

The Kid Pataky teamed up with Sammy Bermudez, who has ridden her in all but one of her 11 career starts. The three-year-old filly was able to get the lead out of the gate and challenged Ace Reporter and Joe Ramos before getting the edge and crossing over to the lead heading into the final turn. The field began to prepare for the final stages of the race with Ekati Flatter and Evin Roman finding room up the inside while E’s Magic and Fernando De La Cruz made a bid on the outside of The Kid Pataky.

With a lot of pressure from each side, The Kid Pataky was locked in a battle with Ekati Flatter to her inside. However, the sophomore stepped up and held off both challengers, moving in front in the final strides for the win by one-half length over Ekati Flatter in a time of 1:04.49. E’s Magic finished close for third.

The Kid Pataky was overlooked at the betting windows, paying $23.40 for the win. The homebred daughter of Pataky Kid is owned by Swifty Farms, located in Seymour, Ind. Tony Cunningham trains the filly, who is now five for 11 in her career. She boosted her career earnings to just under the $200,000 mark for her connections.

“We were a little worried stepping up against the older horses,” explained Cunningham. “She’s an Indiana sired filly and she’s coming into her own this year. We haven’t tried her long yet, so we might look into a race for her like that down the road.”

The Kid Pataky adds the Piedi Bianchi Overnight Handicap to her win in the $100,000 Indiana Stallion Stakes for fillies from last fall. It was her third win of 2024.
