Did you know that many wartime Veterans (or the surviving spouse of a Veteran) may qualify for a monthly tax-free pension through the Aid & Attendance Benefit from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs? Many Veterans qualify for this benefit and are able to use to cover Assisted Living costs.
The Aid & Attendance Benefit has increased another 1.3% for 2021, causing the single Veteran payment to rise to $1,936 and the married Veteran payment to rise to $2,295.
You may qualify for this benefit if you:
- Served at least 90 days active duty with 1 day during an active period of war
- Were honorably discharged
- Are disabled or at least age 65
- Require the assistance of another person with either bathing, dressing, toileting, eating, walking, are legally blind, or need a supervised environment due to memory loss
