The Indiana Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA) will host its third installment of “Grand Mornings at the Track” Saturday, Aug. 25 at Indiana Grand. The interactive breakfast, open to guests of all ages, begins at 9 a.m. with a free continental breakfast followed by guest speakers and a look behind the scenes at Indiana Thoroughbred racing.
The third session for the 2018 season will feature a trip to the starting gate during morning training hours. Guests will see horses up close that are preparing for upcoming races with their work in the starting gate. Starter Ray Kuwik will host the group at the gate, explaining the process and answering questions about his role as the starter at Indiana Grand.
“Grand Mornings at the Track” will also feature a trip to the new Track Maintenance facility, located on the backstretch at Indiana Grand. The $3.2 million state of the art area, which is longer than three football fields, now provides cover for all equipment utilized by the track maintenance department to prepare and care for both the dirt and turf courses. Roy Smith, track superintendent, will provide a tour of the area and will answer questions from the group. The session will conclude at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Guests who are 18 years of age and older attending “Grand Mornings at the Track” will receive a free racing program for the Saturday, Aug. 25 racing program, which begins at 6:05 p.m.
“Grand Mornings at the Track” will offer one more free session Saturday, Sept. 22. The final session will include a look at the third floor of the grandstand, featuring a trip to the audio visual room, steward’s stand and announcer’s booth. All events begin at 9 a.m. in the Always Turned On tent located trackside at Indiana Grand.
