Shelby County Public Library: First Friday Fun: Pete the Cat & Art!
Help us Kick-Off the 15th season of Shelby County Reads! Take part in art activities, say hi to Pete the Cat, and meet artists/authors Gabriel and Jamie Kay Lehman at Three Sisters Books & Gifts during First Friday on Fri., Sept. 7! Events will take place on Shelbyville’s Public Square from 5:30-8:30pm ~ Free! Stop by anytime. Bring your phones/cameras! There will be free photo opps with both Pete the Cat and the Lehman's. SPLAT author Jamie Kay Lehman and artist Gabriel Lehman are a husband and wife team who reside in Nineveh, Indiana. In Splat, two playful, rhyming stories make up an endearing double feature which highlights a caring child making a massive mess. The Lehman’s will also be speaking to all Shelby County kindergarten students in the fall.
Shelby County Reads is a community wide reading program. Each year, a committee selects one main book (along with books that relate in theme for youth) and encourages the public to read them. These books are then donated and distributed throughout all of the county schools and highlighted at the public library and local businesses. Events coinciding with the books are held in the fall of each year. THE MURALIST by B.A. Shapiro is the main 2018 book selection. The organization is a nonprofit that raises support through local donations and grant funds. A special thank you to the Blue River Community Foundation who has offered time and funding to the program for fifteen years.
