Versiti Blood Center of Indiana has issued an Emergency Appeal for Blood Donations. In the last few weeks, we’ve seen a sharp decrease in blood donation, which has led to a critically low blood supply. This means our communities are facing a potential crisis and blood donations are needed immediately. Donate blood at our upcoming drive with Walker Senior Living on Friday September 24th to help us recover the community blood supply and ensure the shortage does not continue. Schedule your donation here: https://bit.ly/WalkerSeniorLiving-BloodDrive-9-24-21 September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month! Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited disorder affecting nearly 100,000 people in the U.S., mainly people of African and Hispanic descent. In sickle cell anemia, the red blood cells are shaped like sickles or crescent moons. These rigid, sticky cells can get stuck in small blood vessels, which can slow or block blood flow and oxygen to parts of the body. There is no cure for most people with sickle cell, but blood transfusions can relieve pain and help prevent complications associated disease. Learn more about Mariah's Sickle Cell journey here.
