    JOB DESCRIPTION

     

    Position;    Executive Director    Date:    September 24, 2025

     

    Reports To:    Board of Directors

     

    Mission:    SCUFFY improves the quality of life in Shelby County by mobilizing the caring power of volunteers & donors to advance the common good.

     

    The Executive Director serves as the primary representative and leader of SCUFFY, overseeing the organization's administration, programs, and strategic initiatives. This role is dedicated to upholding the highest ethical standards while supporting SCUFFY's agencies, committees, and volunteers to achieve the organization's mission. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors.

     

    Essential Functions:

     

    Board Governance: Works with the Board of Directors to fulfill the SCUFFY mission.

     
    • Leads SCUFFY in a way that aligns with and advances its mission.

    • Ensures effective communication with the Board, providing all necessary information to support informed decision-making.

    • Maintains compliance with SCUFFY’s Bylaws.

    • Actively engages in recruiting, developing, and sustaining a strong and effective Board of Directors.

     

    Financial Performance:  Maintains financial health of SCUFFY

     
    • Actively oversees all fundraising efforts by participating in annual drive planning, assisting the Drive Committee, and delivering presentations as needed.

    • Identifies and develops additional revenue streams, including public and private grants, to advance the SCUFFY mission.

    • Prepares the annual budget and ensures the maintenance of accurate records that comply with regulatory and ethical accountability standards, including participation in external audits and the submission of required state and federal tax filings.

    • Reviews and provides monthly financial statements to the Board, accurately reflecting the organization's financial status, as prepared by the Office Manager.

    • Collaborates with the Office Manager to monitor and communicate with contributors about outstanding pledge balances, aiming to minimize year-end write-offs.

     

    Mission and Strategy: Ensures the SCUFFY mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, community outreach, and committees.

     
    • Engages staff, volunteers, and member organizations to execute planned activities and provides progress updates.

    • Executes the strategic plan to achieve the mission both in the present and for the future.

    • Plans and leads initiatives to enhance donor development by connecting with existing and prospective contributors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations.

    • Builds and sustains partnerships with organizations within the United Way/Funding community.

    • Fosters strong relationships with member agencies by attending their events, maintaining open communication, and conducting annual reviews.

     

    Organization Operations: Leads staff and manages operations to ensure success.

     
    • Oversees the recruitment and retention of qualified staff.

    • Ensures the completion of all required annual training.

    • Conducts annual performance evaluations for staff members.

    • Manages third-party contractors responsible for maintaining SCUFFY's real and personal property, in collaboration with the Office Manager.

    • Supervises the secure storage of all SCUFFY records, with support from the Office Manager.

    • Facilitates and manages the coordination and meetings of sub-committees to ensure effective collaboration and alignment with organizational goals.

    • Skilled in promoting SCUFFY through social media platforms and maintaining an online presence.

    • Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by the Board of Directors.

     

    Professional Qualifications:

     
    • A bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience is required 

    • A minimum of five years of senior-level management experience in the nonprofit sector

    • Demonstrated experience in leading and participating in fundraising activities

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver impactful public presentations

    • Strong ability in strategic thinking and comprehensive planning

    • Advanced expertise in financial management and oversight

    • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and proficient computer and typing skills

    • Proficiency in utilizing donor management software and/or CRM platforms

    • Proficiency in researching and applying for grants

    • Proven ability to effectively lead and manage both staff and volunteers

     

    Compensation/Schedule:

    • Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    • The Executive Director position requires working on-site in the office.
