Ann Haehl, Education Outreach Coordinator for the Shelby County Recycling District, was hard at work during the first part of 2024 educating Shelby County students on the science behind the total solar eclipse that occurred on April 8th. Ann shared, “I had a mechanical model of the sun, moon and Earth that allowed the moon to orbit the earth, and the earth orbited the sun.” |

Eclipse-themed Artwork was collected for a community art project in conjunction with the April Total Solar Eclipse. All ages were invited to submit their creations for public display at the Shelby County Public Library and Shelby Art Guild Association. Over 500+ entries were received. The project was initiated and promoted through Serve Shelby in connection with an eclipse microgrant from the SIMONS Foundation as part of the 'In the Path of Totality' initiative with the Indiana University's Center for Rural Engagement. |

TRIBUTE GIVING IN MAY
BRCF Offers An Alternative
Graduation ceremonies, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day are significant occasions observed during the month of May. Traditionally, we place money inside cards for graduates, purchase gifts for our mothers, and place flowers on the graves of our fallen heroes. However, there are alternative options to pay tribute. One way is to make a gift to a fund at BRCF that champions a cause they are about.

NATIONAL NURSES WEEK
The Heartbeat Of Healthcare |
As National Nurses Week approaches, we celebrate not only the compassionate care provided by nurses, but also the initiatives that empower them. In late 2023, MHP made the decision to build the Dr. Nancy Dayhoff, RN Advancement in Nursing Scholarship Fund to a level where, annually, two MHP nurses will benefit from an award in the amount of $1,000. The scholarship is offered to MHP employees for the attainment or advancement of a nursing degree. |

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Without question, BRCF acknowledges the importance of both mental and physical health to an individual's overall well-being. Over time, BRCF has supported the physical health of Shelby County residents through various grants funded by unrestricted community funds and specialized field of interest funds. In recent years however, there has been a notable increase in grant requests for initiatives focusing on mental health and wellness as well.
