Support BRCF's Scholar Alumni Alliance Scholarship FundDuring the month of November, BRCF will once again be conducting our annual Together We Give Match Campaign. This year's match opportunity will benefit a new fund - The BRCF Scholar Alumni Alliance Scholarship Fund. Nancy Bell Provides A Unique PerspectiveMeet Nancy (Dellekamp) Bell as she shares the story behind the Gene and Kay Dellekamp Scholarship, created in 2000 to honor her parents’ love for Purdue University and Shelbyville. 2024 Recipients AnnouncedSince 2010, the City of Shelbyville and Shelby County Councils have offered a grant program that is funded through Racino income they each receive annually. They recognize that there are many organizations in Shelbyville and Shelby County that continually work to enhance the quality of life in our community and support this work by offering a competitive grant cycle through Blue River Community Foundation (BRCF).READ MORE WINTER SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION CYCLE
DEADLINE: January 15, 2025High school students on track to graduate by June 30, 2025, current college students, graduate students, and nontraditional students are encouraged to apply for BRCF scholarships aimed at those pursuing post-secondary credentials. One unique feature of BRCF’s application process is that only one application is completed to qualify for all scholarship opportunities for which an applicant is eligible.For specific criteria, requirements, and instructions for applying, along with a list of available scholarships, please refer to the BRCF Scholarship Resource Guide located on our website under the Scholarships tab. GIFT VIII Match CompleteThanks to the generosity and dedication of our donors, the GIFT VIII 2:1 match opportunity for unrestricted, community grantmaking funds has been successfully completed. Donors reached the $293,750 goal in October, and with Lilly Endowment Inc.’s matching grant of $587,500, a total of $881,250 has been directed to funds which will support the ever-changing needs of our community now and into the future.

Another BRCF Pride in Place Project - Goin' On a Bear HuntBRCF’s “Pride in Place” aims to foster community pride, enhance the quality of life for residents, and create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors and potential new residents. Through our past placemaking efforts such as the traffic cabinet art boxes, the sundial at Blue River Trailhead, and the Alley activation on E. Washington St., we are reimagining our current public spaces. A current example of this initiative in progress is a public art adventure -Goin' On a Bear Hunt.

Supporting NonprofitsFor National Philanthropy Day, Serve Shelby has organized a morning of dedicated, community service in Shelbyville, IN. Volunteers are needed to lend a hand to our local charitable organizations from approximately 8:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. on Fri., November 15, 2024. Individuals and teams from businesses are appreciated. David S. & Betty J.Z. Tomeo Fund
Type: Community (unrestricted) Fund
David and Betty both grew up in Indiana - David in Shelbyville and Betty in Knox. David graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1962. They lived in Indianapolis for many years. Their ties to and love for their hometowns remained strong. Conservation efforts (especially for birds and parks), libraries, literacy, and local history are all areas they enjoyed supporting. Betty established this unrestricted fund to honor David's memory (he passed away in 2016). The fund was established in 2024 during the Lilly Endowment GIFT VIII matching campaign. The 2:1 matching campaign presented the perfect opportunity to establish an unrestricted grantmaking fund to support the changing needs of Shelby County.
Kids In the Summer

Type: Field of Interest FundThis fund was established in 2024 by Mitch Brown, a songwriter and recording artist who performs as Kid Quill. He utilizes this field of interest fund to provide support for capital projects, arts education programing or live poetry or musical performances in designated park areas within the City of Shelbyville.
Nathan Runnebohm
Family Fund
Type: Community (unrestricted) FundNathan Runnebohm is a dedicated advocate for Shelby County, where he has always felt a strong sense of belonging. With a deep commitment to uplifting his community for future generations, Nathan has served on various local boards, including the BRCF Impact Investing Committee. His passion for positive change is reflected in his decision to support the Blue River Community Foundation through generous donations. As the owner of Runnebohm Realty and with family roots in the area, Nathan envisions a future where Shelby County thrives with opportunities for all. His efforts aim to create a lasting legacy that continues to benefit the community he cherishes.

BRCF INITIATIVES The Dolly Parton Imagination Library program provides a free book monthly for children ages 0-5. BRCF administers this opportunity in Shelby County thanks in part to the Shelby County Imagination Library fund established by donors.
