• Indiana American Water Proudly Recognize Shelby County Non-profit Organizations That Support and Enhance the Community

Shelbyville, Ind. - March 24, 2025 - Indiana American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation (AWCF), a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., recently made a splash in Shelbyville and Shelby County. The Foundation provided a combined total of $20,500 in AWCF State Strategic Impact grants to three area organizations in the past six months.

This week, the Boys & Girls Club of Shelby County (BGCSC) received an $8,000 grant to further efforts in expanding and improving its workforce youth development program. The grant enables BGCSC to support its funding drive for new virtual reality headsets which are used to train students in real-world career situations with the support of licensed teaching software.

This is in addition to another $5,000 grant which was awarded in December by the AWCF supporting BGCSC’s mission to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

(DRAFT) "We are deeply grateful to the American Water Charitable Foundation for their generous funding," said Scott Spahr, CEO of BGCSC. "At our Teen Center, workforce development has been a key focus, and the virtual reality headsets have revolutionized how young people gain practical experience in high-demand careers. This additional grant will enable us to sustain and potentially expand our program."

Other AWCF State Strategic Impacts Grants that were awarded in Shelby County over the past six months include:

    • Main Street Shelbyville received a $5,000 grant to enhance the quality of life for residents through downtown revitalization and community events.
    • SCUFFY (Shelby County United Fund For You) received a $2,500 grant to enhance Shelby County's quality of life by supporting social service agencies through volunteer and donor mobilization.

"At Indiana American Water, we are unwavering in our commitment to support and enhance the communities where we live, work, and operate," said Wade Amos, Indiana American Water’s State Director of Operations. “"Our continuous water infrastructure upgrades, along with the impactful programs offered through our Foundation, demonstrate our dedication to making meaningful investments that truly benefit the communities we serve."

The State Strategic Impact grant is part of the AWCF’s “Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program,” focused on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities.
