Dear Strand Fan,This weekend we are dark. We had a cancellation for Saturday night and opted to give our volunteers a much needed break.
It's time to get into the holiday spirit. We have the perfect on ramp to the Christmas Season....Join us for THE FOUNDING: A CELTIC CHRISTMAS. The concert is Sunday November 24, 2024. It is a 3pm matinee."Their performance at the Strand was one of my five favorite concerts we have presented so far. That's saying a lot since we've done over 1600 events!" The Founding is a Progressive Folk band from Kalamazoo, Michigan. With their timeless, powerful approach to songwriting and unique instrumentation, they strive to balance tradition and innovation as they bring new music to life. This genre-defining band has performed at theaters like the Strand and festivals throughout the United States.The band members have many years of experience in music
education and enjoy sharing their knowledge with student groups
about traditional music styles, ensemble playing, and musicianship
through workshops and collaborative performances.THE FOUNDING has dynamic professionally trained musicians:
Elizabeth June (EJ) LaPeer is a graduate of both Western Michigan University and the University of Michigan where she earned bachelors and masters degrees in Flute Performance. EJ had the unique experience of growing up in a large family full of passion for music and the arts. Now studying in Ann Arbor, teaching flute lessons, and performing with The Founding, Elizabeth also enjoys playing in a Classical Trio with her two sisters, working as Artistic Director for performing arts company, “Unmuted,” and leading worship at the Kalamazoo House of Prayer.
Joel Tyrone Myers is out of Kalamazoo, MI. He is a graduate of Western Michigan University where he earned his B.A. in music composition. Joel grew up playing Celtic music while in the Chelsea House Orchestra.
John Robey is a classically trained violinist with extensive experience in many genres including contemporary rock, folk, and Celtic. He graduated from Western Michigan University with a BA in music performance. He has performed with professional orchestras such as the Jackson Symphony Orchestra and the Southwestern Michigan Symphony Orchestra.
Lukas Stanley is a graduate of Western Michigan University, where he earned degrees in music composition and music education, and Davenport University, where he earned a degree in Computer Science. In addition to playing keyboard, cajón, and viola with the band, he also works as a software developer, music composer, audio producer, and game designer.Patrick Hartson is a Master’s student studying cello performance at DePaul University, and holds a BM in cello performance from Western Michigan University. He is a Teaching Artist for the Community Music Division at DePaul, and formerly held a section cello position with the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra.
Kyle Pitcher is a graduate of Western Michigan University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in music education. During the daytime, Kyle serves as an orchestra director in Rockford, MI. Kyle is classically trained as an upright bassist and is a member of the Elkhart County Symphony and Gaylord Community Orchestra.Together this group of musicians brings to life the spirit of the holidays through their music. Join us Sunday November 24 at 3pm. Tickets are available online, locally at Shelbyville Paint, and at the door.***We were joined at our final Friday Night Frights by many loyal FNF patrons. Michael and Robin wore the movie shirt for each and every film, including C.H.U.D. We love our patrons!

***The Night at the Ryman concert on Saturday night brought many first time patrons to the Strand. We had audience members from Anderson, Zionsville, New Castle, Cincinnati, and Lexington Kentucky as well as surrounding communities. The Strand continues to be faithful to our core values providing entertainment in downtown Shelbyville, just as we have done for the past 108 years.
