Dear Strand Fan,
TONIGHT!
ELF (2003)November 29, 20247pmThe tradition continues. Our first showing of ELF on Black Friday was in 2009. Other than the pandemic, we haven't missed a year! Come enjoy this great family movie, sit in the balcony, and make a memory with your kids and grandkids. The movie starts at 7pm and tickets are available at the door. We will have live pre-show music by Lisa Bruno (clarinet) and John Reed (saxophone). The night will be magical. We hope you can join us. Tickets are available at the door.***Next weekend we have a full slate!TOM MABE COMEDYFriday December 6, 20248pm (after the parade)

CARPENTERS CHRISTMAS CONCERTSunday December 8, 20243pm
Celebrate the season with us with one of our events! The theater is decorated for Christmas. . Take your annual family picture in front of the tree at the Strand. All tickets are available at the door as well as online.***This week we had our annual inspection by the Department of Homeland Security (state fire marshal). DHS is making an effort to vary the date of inspection from year to year. We normally inspect in September. Our volunteers maintain the Strand in tip-top shape, with all our safety equipment tested on a monthly basis. Our fire extinguishers, alarm system, and emergency exit lights all go through tests. This year Strand board member (and sound guru) Ron Bush did a voltage check on our exit lights. His chart is below. These items, while rarely used, have to work first time every time. This is the kind of detail it takes.
***This week we had an oh-%^& moment. During the soundcheck for A Celtic Christmas, we had our projection system fail. Miraculously it came back, so we chalked it up as a gremlin. On Tuesday Joe Gaudin & David Finkel went to the Strand to prepare for our upcoming Digital Cinema Projection project. They decided to benchmark procedures with the old system. (warning, tech talk ahead) After about 5 minutes the system failed. Dead. Not working. Oh no! Two hours later, after a complete reverse engineering of the system the late Cody Veerkamp designed and installed, we found the problem. The power connection to the items that transmit the signal to the projectors was loose. Yes, it was a Clark Griswald problem, just plug it in...fixed! We are thrilled to be ready (and confident) for our holiday films. We are also incredibly impressed by the elegance of the system Cody designed.Below is a picture of how the signal is distributed, audio separated, and image sent to the projectors. Next year we will be using our DCP equipment.
***Last Saturday the Snowflake Princess Pageant was held at the Strand. Kappa Delta Psi sorority sponsors this each year. This year marked the 18th year for the pageant. This year's MC was our own Jason Hignite. Imari Hudnall was crowned the Snowflake Princess. Madeline Gaddie and Jessa Decker named first- and second runner-up. Last year’s Princess Ava Voorhees passed on the crown.
The event is one of our favorites. The Shelby County Chapter, Psi Iota, was founded 78 years ago. If you would like to know more about Kappa Delta Phi contact Annette Mullen at 317-512-5925.
***We hope to see you tonight at ELF or one of the other great programs this season. Thank you for the support. It is because of you that we can operate our historic venue. See you at the Strand! If you would like to volunteer for an event reply to this email, join our Facebook Volunteer Group, or call 317-395-3318
