A CHRISTMAS STORY (1983)7:30pm
We are having our final two holiday movies tonight. This is in conjunction with the Cross Country Meet that is in Shelbyville tomorrow. We were checking and this is the first time we have shown A CHRISTMAS STORY. It is a funny movie.Doors open 30 minutes before the start of the film. The popcorn is great! We hope to see you there.***Sunday A SING-A-LONG CHRISTMAS: BARBERSHOP STYLE starts at 3pm. This concert features Circle City Sound, a 4 part harmony men's ensemble, and will be joined by Shelbyville Middle School's ELEVATE SHOW CHOIR. Sunday's concert of holiday music will be our final performance of the 2024 season. Come get your jingle on and hear a great concert at the Strand!
Tickets are available at the door. Doors open at 2:30pm with the concert starting at 3pm.***What should be easy never is. We had private events (yes we do that) this past Saturday. As part of what we do, the patrons had popcorn. We had to pop a lot of popcorn. Unknown to us, some of 100% pure coconut oil was in our popping kettle. Coconut oil solidifies at any temperature under 75-77°. We have heaters to make sure it is viscous before we use it. In the morning we went to pop our first batch of many. As soon as the agitator of the popcorn machine turned on, unknown to us was the oil in the kettle was solid. The result was the shear pin of our Cretors Popcorn Machine did its job...it sheared. No agitator, no popcorn. Oh no! We had 430+ patrons, all getting popcorn arriving in an hour.First call was to Joey G. at the Skyline Drive-In. He immediately started making popcorn for us at 9:00am. Next we went on the hunt for our spare shear pins. We have never used them. After much searching we discovered a box in one of our cabinets. It was labeled in Bob Schlick's handwriting "Spare Popcorn Machine Parts." In there was a bag of shear pins. With the new pin installed we were up and running. It was a heart stopper for about an hour, but all turned out well!
***A CARPENTERS CHRISTMAS was fantastic. The music was all familiar with the Strand being transported back in time. Lead singer Lisa Rock sang "Ave Maria without a microphone. We appreciated the opportunity to highlight the Strand's incredible acoustics for our audience. The concert brought patrons mostly from out of town. One group traveled from Fishers. They mentioned this was their third trip to the Strand. We love that!
***During our events last Saturday, we had a visit from the new owners of SUNRISE SPORTS CANTINA. They are opening a restaurant at the Blue Bear Golf Course. We look forward to trying the new eatery. One of the core values of the Strand is Economic Vitality. By banding together as a community we form our environment not only through amenities in the arts, but aso establishments like SUNRISE SPORTS CANTINA. The Strand wishes them great success.***Thank you for the support. As we wrap up our 2024 season we look forward to sharing our year in review. We still have a weekend full of events, so we will see you at the Strand! If you would like to volunteer for an event reply to this email, join our Facebook Volunteer Group, or call 317-395-3318
