We'll see you Saturday night!***On Tuesday our film series continues with HARRY AND THE HENDERSONS (1987). If you know this movie you will want to attend. If you are not familiar with Harry and the Hendersons, this will be a movie you want to watch! It features comedy, romance...and bigfoot! You will love this movie. Tuesday April 15, 2025. The film starts at 7pm and tickets are available at the door.
***This week we featured General George S. Patton. We showed the 1970 film on Wednesday, and on Thursday we had a lecture by Denny Hair as Patton. This was incredibly interesting hearing the true story behind this important and controversial military leader. Thank you to Dave Weakley for arranging the program and bringing this experience to our community.
***One again our water bill is on the increase. It has doubled in the past 2 months. We found the culprit. One valve on one urinal has a slight leak. That is responsible for an extra $50 per month in water usage! Our plumber is on the way and while we are at it we will rebuild or replace all the valves. He commented the last time he fixed it the DeWitt family owned the theater. It's been a few years...***The City of Shelbyville held a pre-bid meeting to allow contractors to visit the site and ask questions about the demolition of the unit block of Harrison Street. One of the buildings is the Adam's Glass Building (the old livery stable). This whole process concerns the Strand.
The Adam's Glass Building IS the Strand, same building, same structure. We allowed the City and bidders to have access to our courtyard and the interior of our building. They soon realized the structure is the same, and the wall installed in 1954 was only a barrier, not a structural item.
Most all the bidders commented the demolition will be difficult. Supporting our section of the building will be critical. This is a bad deal for everyone involved. We appreciate city engineer Kyle Comstock being communicative and respectful of our property. We are curious to see the bids. We put a copy of the bid package in our archives. Years from now it will be an interesting piece of history.
***Thank you for the support. We will see YOU at the Strand! If you would like to volunteer for an event reply to this email, join our Facebook Volunteer Group, or call 317-395-3318
