Our 18th Season
...Building an Audience, One Seat at a TimeDear Strand Fan,
This week we are dark for the Easter Holiday. Happy Easter and Happy Passover to everyone!Friday Night Frights returns for April with CHRISTINE (1983). This year we are featuring the King of Fright, Stephen King.
In 1957, at an automobile factory in Detroit, a red 1958 Plymouth Fury slammed its hood shut by itself on a worker's hand, while another worker was found dead inside the car after dropping cigar ash on its seats. So begins the saga that has terrified readers and audiences for over 40 years.
The movie is tonight, Friday April 18. The show starts at 7pm and tickets are available at the door. If you happen to have a 57 or 58 Plymouth Fury, park it out front!
***THE BLUES BROTHERS (1980) "Tonight only, the fabulous Blues Brothers. Rhythm and blues review. The Palace Hotel ballroom. Route 16. Lake Wazzapamani. The Fabulous Blues Blues Brothers show band and review."While we don't have a megaphone on top of our police cruiser, the message is the same."Yes, one night only, the fabulous Blues Brothers. Rhythm and blues review. The Strand Theatre. Route 9. Shelbyville. The Fabulous Blues Brothers show band and review."
Be there! April 22, 7pm, part of our Tuesday Night Film Series.

***The Strand has been contacted by additional bidders about the pending bid on demolition of the block of buildings on West Broadway Street. We are working with the City to make sure these companies contact the City and go through their protocols.Lots of questions surround this project. We want to be very clear, the Strand understands and supports our City in this difficult process. This is not good for anyone, that is a given. The Strand is impacted less than others, especially the City. From now on we will refer to the Adams Paint Building as the Livery Stable. This building has a long history. It was built by J.L.Young in around 1895 as a livery stable. The story of the construction is incredible. We will publish a wonderful article by George Young, the great-grandson of the builder!***
This week David F. met with Bob M. from the Brown County Playhouse. We both share information and talent. It was fun to make sure our two venues support each other in programing, timing, and venue operations. David is no stranger to the Brown County Playhouse as he did two seasons of summer stock with IU Theatre in that theater.

Last weekend we welcomed Doug Allen Nash performing music of Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond. It was a fun evening!
***Coming up we have a special weekend highlighting the life of actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr. Hedy was as brilliant as she was beautiful.Satellite downlinks and cell phones use this technology. Hedy Lamarr was quite the woman. New York City actress Heather Massey brings her one woman show HEDY! THE LIFE & INVENTIONS OF HEDY LAMARR to the Strand's stage on Saturday May 3.
