Our 18th Season
...Building an Audience, One Seat at a TimeDear Strand Fan,
We hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day Holiday. Our Strand volunteers were happy to have the weekend off! Thank you to those who called to see what we had scheduled, but sadly we need some time off every now and then.Tonight our Tuesday Night Film Series continues with the final episode of "Hold On!". This evening we are showing the 1997 film DANTE'S PEAK. This action filled movie features suspense in seismic proportions. We think what could be beneath our feet? The New Madrid Fault at some point in time will make its presence known. Dante's Peak starts off with an earthquake...hmm we had one in 1987. Who knows...The movie starts at 7pm and tickets are available at the door. We hope you can make it.
***The Tuesday Night Film Series continues in June with Batman!BATMAN (1989) June 3BATMAN RETURNS (1992) June 10BATMAN FOREVER (1995) June 17BATMAN & ROBIN (1997) June 24We hope you can relive these great movies with us.
***Next Week our Community Treasure Series features GABBY MEDDLESON READING THE 1890 SHELBYVILLE NEWS. Donna Dennison the incredibly talented genealogist from the Shelby County Public Library will portray Ms. Meddleson. Wednesday June 4, 2025. 7pm. This is a free event.

A Small-Town Heist
By Mike Yonts
My film Extraction, USA (playing at The Strand Theatre June 6) is set in a small town with a big divide between those who have a lot and those with nothing. Marni Jackson is a single mom, bartender, and occasional pool hustler who lives close to the edge. Her boss harasses her and dabbles in some shady business. Her directionless son hates everything. An energy boom in the town of Extraction is making other people rich, but not her. When a mysterious pool shooter named Steph strides into the bar and challenges Marni to a game, she’s smitten by Steph’s swagger and tough-girl persona. The pair begin to hatch schemes to win money from some of the nouveau-riche bigwigs that run
the town. But that taste of cash only whets their appetites, and before long they’re hatching an audacious scheme to help themselves to a big stash and disappear from town for good.
Extraction, USA, has gotten some great reviews, which you can find via the film’s website, www.extractionusa.net. And the film’s stars have won their share of attention, with Leanne Johnson appearing recently on NBC’s Chicago PD, and Marlee Carpenter in Lifetime’s The Past Comes Knocking. Will Marni and Steph succeed with their scheme, and extract themselves for good? Join us at The Strand on Friday, June 6, to find out!
***Work has started on the demolition of the buildings on Broadway Street. The first thing that had to happen was the power to the properties needed removed. The Strand has allowed Duke Energy to access our property to accomplish this task. Can you say "Rat's Nest?" We are happy this is disconnected.
***Thank you for the support. It is honestly a very difficult time for us. We look forward to putting May behind us. We hope to see you at one of our events soon. See you at the Strand!
