Our 17th Season
...Building an Audience, One Seat at a Time.
Dear Strand Fan,
Saturday night August 31, 2024 we welcome THE BLUE LEAF's to the Strand's stage. They play a huge variety of music, ranging from disco, country, British Invasion, etc. All music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s has a chance of being heard. Some artists include The Beatles, Queen, Bee Gees, Elton John, Johnny Cash, Huey Lewis, Eagles, Dire Straits, and more! The Strand asked about their name. "Back in 2015, we were in a band that played exclusively Beatles and Beach Boys music. We wanted to start writing our own original music and decided we needed to come up with a different name for our band. After spending hours together, we couldn’t come up with anything. As we were leaving the house after band practice, there was a random blue leaf in the middle of the driveway. My Dad had gotten my Mom a blue poinseda for Valentines Day, but had thrown it away since it had started to die. One of us jokingly pointed at the leaf and was like “That’s our name now!” And so it has been since then." Chase Heck, founder of the Blue Leaf'sSo now we know. The concert starts at 7:30pm. Tickets are available online, at the door, and locally at Shelbyville Paint. We'll see you there!Don't forget that Tuesday we will show the 5th film in the Jurassic Park saga. JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM (2018). The film is the second installment in the Jurassic World trilogy and the fifth installment overall in the Jurassic Park film series. The characters return to the fictional Central American island of Isla Nublar to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from an impending volcanic eruption, only to discover a mercenary team's ulterior motives to bring them to the US mainland! Come join the fun Tuesday September 3, 2024. The movie starts at 7:30pm.

***Key Bank called us. They wanted to provide dinosaur themed gift bags for one of our film nights. That night was this past Tuesday. They had the goodie bags for all our patrons. It was fun! There were all sorts of things in the bag that every kid (and adult) loves. Thank you to Key Bank for volunteering to make our film night special Below is Cora Welch greeting our movie goers.
***Many patrons come dressed for the occasion. Here is Terry J. decked out in his Jurassic Park garb. It is always fun.
***We take care of our equipment. Our HVAC units have regular filter changes. This year we were delayed in changing our filters. This week we took care of that job. Bob Schlick visited all 7 units. We were several months behind, yet upon inspection our filters were still in good shape. That was a lesson! We now have on our master calendar when we need to check the filters for replacement. If we can stretch a few extra months of life from the filters, then over the course of time it will make a huge impact. We can always learn! (Editor's note: We checked the date on the filters. 21 months....oops! Now the discussion "how long do we go" as they were still serviceable!)
***We are gearing up for an international film festival at the end of September. CINEMA SCARES is a Midwest film festival that strives to bring together horror films from across the genre from filmmakers throughout the United States and from around the world. Cinema Scares Film Festival showcases the best of indie horror and connects filmmakers and fans.
Cinema Scares is a blend of film and horror connoisseurs dedicated to the discovery, promotion, preservation, and appreciation of independent horror films. We are committed to serving and supporting independent filmmakers within the horror genre and subgenres. We will be giving more information in the coming weeks including a list of countries that have had filmmakers submit! It will be the last weekend in September.
***After Jurassic Park ends we will show two classics. First is THE BREAKFAST CLUB (1985) followed by the iconic ANIMAL HOUSE (1987). Our friends at DePrez, Johnson, and Brant PC will be presenting Animal House. There will be a free popcorn for anyone coming in a toga, and Capones will be providing a bar. One thing we ask is NO pledge pins on your uniform!
***We look forward to the Labor Day Holiday after a full weekend at the Strand. We hope you can make the concert tomorrow night. Thank you for the support. See you at the Strand!
