Compensation:
This is part time position during the academic school year (29 hours per week). Salary is commensurate with experience and follows the Northwestern Consolidated School District pay scale.
Position Description:
The Part-Time School Nurse provides essential health services to support the well-being and academic success of students.
Working within a specific school or shared across buildings, the nurse delivers direct care, manages student health concerns, administers medications and collaborates with staff and families to maintain a safe, healthy school environment. This position ensures compliance with health regulations while promoting wellness and early intervention.
Qualifications:
• Education:
• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana (or applicable state).
• Current CPR/AED/FIRST AID certification.
• School Nurse certification preferred but not required.
• Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years nursing experience; school nursing or pediatric experience.
• Skills & Abilities:
• Excellent clinical judgement and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities within a limited schedule.
• Professional, calm and compassionate demeanor
• Willing to be trained in multiple responsibilities listed below.
Responsibilities:
• Direct Student Care:
• Assist the Corporation Nurse with health services at the assigned building and follow directives.
• Provide first aid and skilled nursing care to students experiencing illness, injury, or medical episodes during the
school day.
• Assess, identify, monitor and refer health needs of students.
• Implement and maintain individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) with proper training for students.
• Provide care/assistance to students outlined in their Individualized Health Care Plan. (i.e.,G-tube
feedings/medication administration, blood sugar monitoring and injections, suctioning, administer emergency
medications and treatment {Narcan/EpiPen/Stop the Bleed})
• Administer prescription and over-the-counter medications per physician orders and parent consent.
• Health Records & Compliance:
• Maintain up-to-date and confidential student health records in compliance with HIPAA/FERPA.
• Monitor immunization status and follow up with families regarding compliance with state vaccination
requirements.
• Prepare and submit required health reports as directed.
• Collaboration & Communication:
• Serve as a liaison between the school, families and healthcare providers.
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with parents about student health concerns.
