Our 18th Season
...Building an Audience, One Seat at a TimeDear Strand Fan,
WORK SESSION
TomorrowSaturday January 259am - noonWe will have our second work session tomorrow. We accomplished a lot last week and are continuing down our work list. On the docket for tomorrow is applying fireproofing to our holiday decorations. We will also be working in the projection booth on our digital cinema projection (DCP) project. Another crew will be deep cleaning our public spaces. Finally if we have time we will travel above our stage to change our furnace filters. All are welcome. If you would like to just stop by and look around we welcome that too. See you tomorrow.
***Strand volunteers spend Tuesday evening getting our DCP another step closer to testing. We reseated the server and IMB boards and they powered up as expected. We have also lit our lamp for the first time. It came on and produced wonderful light!
The lamp is very powerful and runs very hot. Part of the installation process is installing a 6" exhaust vent that has a dedicated 150 cfm fan. Bob S. installed this several months ago. It was turned on for the first time and ran for the two hours we worked on the projector. This is an important point.
Sadly we still have an issue that prevented the dowser (cutoff) from working. We have reached out to a cinetech to help us analyze the problem. This is just part of the process. After several hours David, Steve, Ron, and Joey G. called it a night....or so we thought. We all went out to eat. Just as we were leaving the restaurant our alarm company called. There was a problem signal sent from our projection booth smoke detector. It did not indicate a fire, but was certainly suspect as that detector has never given any problems in 18 years. We knew something was up.
We decided not to take a chance and called the Shelbyville Fire Department to meet us at the theater. Within two minutes we were all there including an officer from the Shelbyville Police Department who was in the area.SPD had thermal sensors and completely checked the area. No problems. We figured out the problem. Remember that projector exhaust fan? It moves a lot of air. So much so that it kicked up dust we could not see, and that would cause the fault.
After about thirty minutes we called it a night. Or so we thought...***
Tuesday was the coldest night of the year. Overnight lows registered -3 . About 4am our alarm company called once again. This time it was an entry alarm on our front doors. This time we knew immediately. The doors are aluminum frame. When it is super cold it causes the doors sensors to contract, setting off the alarm. We spoke to the police, the doors checked secure. Our volunteer opted to stay home!***We are preparing for our season. We have lots of ways to get information about the Strand. We are in our 18th year as a paid advertiser in the Shelbyville News, and daily paid advertiser on WSVX GiantFM radio. Our marquee is full for upcoming events, and our newsletter has our full schedule for our first few months..***We are looking forward to getting back into the groove. Thank you for the support. We will see you at the Strand!
